Let's go shopping!

We all want a #pinterestworthy space, right? Well, not necessarily. For most of us, our ideal space isn't really based on what others have. Instead, we just want a space that feels good.

Our personal space should reflect who we are and what makes us feel at our fullest potential. So you can imagine, the ideal space should be functional and aesthetically pleasing. I have come up with my personal shopping to allow my space to be this practical haven that I crave.

In the past, I have found myself going down a rabbit hole of trendy studio designs. I would waste so much time looking at all these gorgeous spaces and forget about my own mess that needed tending to. It wasn't until the middle of 2020 that I realized, I had a problem. I am an awful procrastinator and I need help. So, I got to work.

Hours were wasted on social media and no work was getting done. Meanwhile, my art area was getting more and more cluttered.

I decided that in order to get to where I want to be artistically, I need to have a serving space. This space needed to be inviting to my spirit and one that assisted in curbing my anxiety. So, I did what any reasonable Millenial does when they're fed up. I deleted my social media.

Okay, okay! I didn't delete all of my social media. Just the ones that I either spent an abundant amount of time with the toxicity of it all or ones where I had no interest to post anything on but just jumped on to scroll because I already caught up with the dreaded Facebook feed.

After this, it was like a weight was lifted. I was able to take in the chaos that was my spot and sort through things and look at the space differently. I began to say things like, " Hmm. Ya know, a shelf would look really good here." or "My desk would be better suited there."

My husband and I switched spaces twice on the opposite sides of the room (Sorry, babe!). When we first moved in, we decided, there's no way that my drafting table would fit up here. Almost a year later and some switching sides, the table has it's own window space!

Here I am again, looking around and I still can see ways to may my corner work for me. The shopping list I have is for my smol upgrade. I want to create but I also want to have a clean, organized area to optimize hours of work.

Metal Utility Cart: I'm a sucker for this mint green color but, I find that this is a handy item. I can put my brushes, paints, pencils, markers, etc. in here and use my drafting table the way it was meant to be used!

Shelving: I had a failed attempt at installing corner shelves. So, I'm opting for some basic shelving. It's a really tight corner so, I went for something that allows me to optimize it's usage. I thought corner shelves would be cute but then it did this to my wall:

You have no idea how long it took for me to attempt the put in the floating corner shelves.

Command Hooks: Wiring is an issue in this room. Honestly, it's an eye sore! I intend on making it more slightly by hooking up the extension cords to the side of the entertainment center instead of leaving it sloppily on the floor. In turn, the cords will be re-adjusted to run against the wall and be tucked away. The hooks are small, clear and wired so they should fit into the surge protector.

This list is small but, let's be honest, did you think I was going to add more clutter to the mess? As of right now, I think it's best to keep the list a minimal as possible and this is in part due to my own challenge to have items that serves multiple uses and how I can minimize my disorganization.

I believe that this may be a healthy practice and that it will force me to be mindful about my little studio, to let go of anything that no longer blesses me or can bless another and to permit the continual growth of creativity!
